The Mercat Gait Centre offers a great mixture of exercise classes, so no matter what your age or ability, you’ll find a class that suits your needs.
These popular classes are held at the centre and are instructed by the centre staff themselves, this ensures that there is little possibility of classes being cancelled!

Fitness Class Descriptions

  • SPIN FIT

    A powerful indoor cycling class. Using a stationary bike, your instructor will lead you through a variety of drills from hills climbs and sprints to standing on your pedals. This class improves cardiovascular fitness and stamina.

  • KETTLEBELLS

    Kettlebell class is a high-intensity-ballistic workout that elevates the heart rate for effective cardiovascular training. Kettlebell training is different than other forms of weight training because many parts of the body are exercised simultaneously. It combines functional, compound exercises such as “the swing,” “the clean” and “the press” that will work multiple muscle groups. You will develop strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning.

  • CIRCUIT TRAINING

    An efficient and challenging form of conditioning combining cardiovascular fitness with muscle strength and endurance exercises by moving around different workout stations. Work to your own ability and fitness.

  • BOXERCISE

    Boxercise combines boxing concepts with Aerobic exercise to increase overall fitness experience; this workout uses the entire body. You’ll also enhance hand-eye co-ordination, timing and balance whilst developing strength and stamina. This class is a fantastic workout for all levels.

  • HIGH INTENSITY (HIIT)

    HIIT is a full-body workout. One of the best ways to get fit quickly. These workouts burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time. The class is a rigorous interval training sequence with high-intensity exercises. It builds cardiovascular fitness while improving muscular strength and endurance. This class combines resistance training with plyometric moves to improve your strength and power.

  • BODY CONDITIONING

    A class designed to utilise hand weights, kettlebells, barbells and your own body weight to improve strength and muscle tone.

  • BOOTY & ABS BLAST

    A varied workout that will strengthen your lower body, including your legs, glutes and abdominal muscles. Suitable for any level of fitness.

  • AQUA FIT (AQUA AEROBICS)

    A great all-over workout to music. The water supports the body reducing stress on joints and muscles and because you are in water it helps prevent overheating. Aquafit is particularly good if you are recovering from an illness or injury. Suitable for all levels of fitness.

  • ABS BLAST

    A toning and strengthening class focusing on the abdominals and deep core muscles.

  • SPIN CIRCUITS

    A high intensity varied work out that combines all the best elements of our circuit training and spin classes into one.

  • SPIN ABS

    The ultimate fat burning workout. This class has the mix of the high energy cardio spin workout, complimented with an abdominal workout.
